Keeping it free is not charity; it is the mission. We would rather be read by everyone and owe nothing to anyone than be funded by those with something to sell.
What it actually costs
Less than you might think. There is no office, no marketing budget, no investors to repay. The real bills are small and honest: a little electricity, a domain name, the quiet machinery that turns research into a daily story. A lighthouse that tends itself does not cost much to run — it only needs to be kept lit.
What your support changes — and what it never will
Money given here buys exactly one thing: independence. It lets us answer to readers and to the truth, and to no one else.
